How do I get to Chautauqua?
Your ticket includes everything whilst you are in the country (except alcohol & gifts) it doesn't include your transport to Colombia. You will need to organise this yourself.
All you need to do is get yourself to Bogota Airport on the first day of your event and we will be waiting there to pick you up and whisk you to Villa de Leyva.
We realise you may use miles to book your trip. If you arrive or leave outside the range when most people are arriving or leaving, you will be responsible for your own travel to and from the first and last hotel.
The Mad Fientist has a couple of good articles on Travel hacking which may save you some money flying to Colombia

Nearer the time we'll be asking you for your flights details so we can make sure we're at the airport to pick you up! If you have any questions then email Alan and Katie.
Can children attend?
Sorry, at this time we are unable to accommodate anyone under the age of 18.
What time should I arrive/leave?
You should aim to get to the airport on the starting Saturday of your event. There will be someone waiting for you at the airport to take you to the main Chautauqua Hotel which is 2 hours drive
Aim to arrive on the first Saturday of your event in time to get to the hotel for the welcome dinner.
We realise you may want to use frequent flyer miles for your flight and you may arrive at odd hours. We will do our best to accommodate you for transportation within a reasonable time of the beginning and end of the Chautauqua but too far outside the norm may cause you to incur an additional cost for transport or you can organise it yourself.
On the final day we will check out of the hotel after breakfast on Saturday. At this point you have 3 options:
The Chautauqua includes all meals beginning with dinner on the Saturday evening when you arrive and ending with breakfast on the last Saturday.
I live near the venue - can I come over each day and hang out and then go home at night?
The magic of Chautauqua is getting together in a remote (ish) location and spending time together and bonding as a group. We don't sell partial or day tickets because it means we don't bond as well as a group. Chautauqua is all or nothing baby!
What type of people attend?
We have had people from all walks of life attend and all have had one big thing in common: They are seeking to lead a different life. Many have said they found their tribe at the Chautauqua and have made lifelong friends. People have come from as far away as South Africa and Australia with the majority arriving from the US and Canada. We have woman and men who have travelled alone, along with couples and friends. Now we are just waiting for YOU!
Why do you add in extra Us and Ls to words? And why are there some Ss instead of Zs?
We realise we spell differently. It's because we are British and like to add colour to our spelling.
Despite our annoying British habit of adding Us to everything we have been told repeatedly by our Colombia friends that Colombia is spelt with two Os!
Do I need a visa to enter Colombia?
US and Canadian citizens do not need a visa prior to coming to Colombia for visits of less than 90 days. If you are a citizen from a different country, please check online for your visa requirements.
Do I need to be vaccinated to enter Colombia
At this time, Colombia has said that all visitors must be vaccinated to enter their country. This may change, but at the time of writing it is required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter Colombia (03/02/2022)
What are the room arrangements?
There are only 2 options available to you when staying with us:
What is NOT included in the price?
Your Chautauqua fee covers everything from when you arrive on Saturday to when you leave on the next Saturday. Travel in the country is arranged, accommodation booked and food sorted for you. We have arranged for you to try some of the most exciting food in Colombia!
Your fee does not include alcoholic beverages, gifts, or other personal expenses. The Friday is left open for trips or chatting and if you want to book one of the trip options on that day it is not included. You may need a small amount of the local currency for optional extras!
What clothing should I bring?
There is no dress code at Chautauqua. We want you to be comfortable! Temperatures will vary in the hotel and outside so we recommend bringing plenty of layers. The weather in Colombia is pretty stable with the highs in Villa de Leyva being 20 degrees and lows of 8 degrees. It will get hot outside and the sun is strong so bring sunscreen, but at night you might need a sweater. (Yes we use Celsius. That is highs of 66 Fahrenheit and lows of 49 Fahrenheit for your North Americans!)
What else should I bring?
How do I prepare for my 1-2-1?
The time is completely yours when you meet with one of our incredible speakers so you can discuss anything at all. Katie and I wanted to be as prepared as we could to get the most out of our hour with JL! What we prepared was:
You can do as much or as little preparation as you like for these chats. You could just come along and have fun! You probably know that the Donegans were very well prepared!
Disclaimers:
While we are doing everything in our power to make this a very special and wonderful experience for all attendees, these are a few things you might want to consider before you sign up.
Cancellation policy
No one wants to cancel coming to an event and we know when you sign up to come you are committed to coming to Chautauqua. We are a small company and as such have the following cancellation policy:
Chautauqua Colombia cancellation policy
What if I have to cancel because of Covid?
Cancelling because of Covid might happen for a number of reasons. The first is that you test positive for Covid before you come. This is the reason we urge you to have travel insurance which will cover this. The cancellation policy above is our official policy, of course we will try and help you and will work it out with you. We have to commit to the costs of the hotel before you come and as such we will have to cover those costs.
What if restrictions are introduced in my home country or Colombia for Covid and we can't come?
The second reason the event might get cancelled is due to Colombia or your country introducing more restrictions, lock downs or other things. We think there is a much smaller chance of this happening and if it does happen we will have to re-think the whole event. Our contingency plan is to re-schedule the event for different dates if this risk happens.
Covid security at the hotel
We have spoken to the hotel about their Covid protocols and are very confident that they are working hard to protect and look after all their guests. The hotel does require guests to wear masks whilst walking through the main communal area and their staff will wear masks for our safety. If you would like to see their full covid protocols you can download them here. Katie and I have had them translated into English for you.

Testing before you come
Colombia at the time of writing this (07/02/2022) doesn't have a requirement for you to have a negative test to enter the country. We are asking you to take a rapid test before travelling to Chautauqua as a precaution. As it is a close group, we really want to do everything we can to make sure everyone is Covid-free and safe. We will not be requiring you to show us the negative test, we will just ask you do it before you come.
Is Colombia Dangerous
Katie and I spent 2 months in Bogota last year and loved our time there. We travelled up to Villa de Leyva, where the event is, for the weekend as well. We felt perfectly secure in Colombia. The hotel in Villa de Leyva has a great security record and it is located in a peaceful town in the Andes mountains. You will be perfectly safe walking around the town and exploring and we will be with you throughout helping you.
