Read JL Collins' Manifesto here

JL Collins spent most of his career in the publishing business, but that is almost completely unimportant. What matters more is his driving ambition to have FU Money. Of all the things you can spend money on, the most important, he says, is your freedom.

JL Collins' blog is one of the original FI blogs and includes the rather legendary original stock series posts that gives you everything you need to get started investing for FI.   JL gave a talk at Google on investing and FI.  Check it out here

JL is the author of the best selling book: The Simple Path to Wealth & How I lost money in Real Estate before it was fashionable.

Millennial Revolution

Picture

What is the Millenial Revolution?

Kristy and Bryce (aka FIRECracker and Wanderer) are Canada's youngest retirees. They used to live in one of the most expensive cities in Canada, but instead of drowning in debt, they rejected home ownership. What resulted was a 7-figure portfolio, which has allowed them to retire in their 30s and travel the world. They now spend their time helping people with their finances and fulfilling their travel dreams on their blog "Millennial Revolution"   In retirement Kristy and Bryce co-wrote Quit like a Millionaire, which was published by Penguin Random House.

Doc G - Earn and Invest Podcast

Listen to the Earn and Invest Podcast

Jordan Grumet was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1973. His interest in becoming a doctor was ignited when his father, an oncologist, died unexpectedly in the prime of his life. This profound loss not only inspired him to practice medicine, it has given him a unique perspective as a financial expert, challenging him to think deeply and critically about concepts like wealth, abundance, and financial independence.

After years of blogging about financial independence and wellness, Jordan launched the Earn & Invest podcast in 2018. In 2019 he received the Plutus Award for Best New Personal Finance Podcast and was nominated in 2020 and 2021 for Best Personal Finance Podcast of the year.  His book, Taking Stock: A Hospice Doctor’s Advice on Financial Independence, Building Wealth, and Living a Regret-Free Life is being published by Ulysses Press in August 2022.

Alan Donegan - Rebel Business

Rebel Business School

Alan built Rebel Business School out of the frustration of setting up his own business and the lack of good advice available.

Since the business school launched in 2012, it has helped 15,000 people launch businesses and is changing the way entrepreneurship is taught around the world. He also hosts the Rebel Entrepreneur Podcast, which has the same mission.

In 2020, Alan and his wife Katie launched Rebel Finance School together to do the same thing for financial education that they have been doing for entrepreneurship

Alan has spent years ripping up the traditional way to do things, whether it is how to start a business, finances or how to build your own life.  Want help to create something extraordinary? Alan is the man to talk to.

Past Chautauqua Speakers

Over the years we have had some incredible speakers at Chautauqua.  From Mr Money Mustache to the Mad Fientist and beyond.  Below you will find information about some of the speakers we have had over the years.

Carl "Mr 1500"

Picture

Check out Mr 1500's website here

Carl, who writes as Mr 1500, is on a mission to encourage and inspire others to abandon their consumer, spendaholic ways in favor of a more fulfilling existence. Carl says, "I've seen what life is like on the other side. I've lived in a massive home and purchased new cars. These things provide short-term happiness but often have the opposite effect long-term. I realized that I was working at a job that I didn't like to support a life of paying for disposable nonsense." About early retirement, Carl says "FIRE is a worthy goal, but remember that the true objective isn't to quit work but to live life on your own terms. When I'm 90, I want to look back on my life and know that I lived well."

J.D. Roth is an accidental personal-finance expert. In 2006, he founded the blog Get Rich Slowly to document his journey out of debt. He sold the website in 2009; in 2017, he bought it back. (Ironically, writing about how to get rich slowly allowed him to get rich quickly.) J.D. published Your Money: The Missing Manual in 2010, contributed to the "Your Money" column for Entrepreneur magazine for four years, and launched the year-long "Get Rich Slowly" course in 2014. J.D. is more interested in the mindset of money than he is in the math. He's been speaking about purpose and personal finance for more than a decade.

What people are saying about previous FI Chautauquas

“Was it valuable? Without question. Did it meet my expectations? Met and exceeded. Would I recommend it? If financial independence is a goal and you can attend in a fiscally responsibly way, then yes, yes I would.”

“To be surrounded by such a supportive and encouraging group of people for an entire week…… I don’t know if I can describe the impact it had on me. It was literally life changing though.”
